For the first time ever the National Democratic Convention will be blogged. Officials say this will be a first in the history of politics. The NDC will hand pick a group of bloggers to attend and blog the convention. These select bloggers will be picked based on their blogs readership, professionalism and quality of their original content.

We hope to bring back to political conventions something of the spirit of the early American democracy, the wide-ranging, freewheeling, and raucous discussions about the state of the nation and the state of the party, Matt Stoller, the DNC’s Blog Community Coordinator, wrote in his first posting.

This is a huge step towards the blogosphere being accepted as a legitimate form of communication, news and social commentary.
