   Now if someone came up with a plugin that inserted the rel=”nofollow” and allowed one to approve comments to remove it, that’d be cool.

   The plugin seems to be in conflict with Spam Stopgap Extreme. This is in WP 1.3 alpha.

   “participants do not get credit for their inbound links”

   Since when did commenting on a blog entitle you to any ‘credit’? This isn’t a popularity contest. You make it sound like people and spammers both comment on blogs simply for search engine rank and you want to be selective as to ‘who’ you allow that privilege.

   If people are commenting on my blog they do so at their own free will. There is nothing to imply that I owe them anything.

   Yes it is unfortunate that the nofollow parameter will affect everyone and not just the spammers, but that is hardly a reason to condemn the practice.

   Since when does commenting on how I plan on or not plan on implementing a particular practice constitute condemning the practice?

   I have no need to use the nofollow attribute in my links as I haven’t had any comment spam in months and if I did it would be removed immediately. I also prefer to allow those that participate in Blogging Pro and my other weblogs to receive PageRank credit, however little that may be.
