[...] Every day, RSS feeds allow me to keep track of hundreds of websites and blogs, reading their new content without ever actually visiting their site. While I am sure that many people have spent hundreds of hours on their designs and whatnot, I really just want to keep up with all the new things they are writing.
Most people say that the main advantage of converting to Feeburner is its statistical reporting -- especially information regarding users who have "subscribed" to feeds.

From what I have read, some of the other "advantages" of Feedburner can be obtained with existing WP extensions or add-ons. For example, add-ons can provide email notificatin of new posts, and social networking submission.

I have a blog less than two months old. I use AW-stats to get basic information.

Is there an alternative to Feedburner, that would provide additional statistical reports, but without having to change the native WP feed system?

Does Feedburner provide meaningful promotional advantages as well as statistical reporting?

I am reluctant to change over to Feedburner, but if it is the smart move I ought to make it sooner rather than later.

Thanks!

I cannot believe that nobody has actually mentioned Reblog; here's a great article from Lifehacker that really explains the benefits.

I've been running the beta since reading that article. There are a couple of bugs, such as not being able to archive (i.e. mark as read) some articles, but that's easily helped off; and the product is still in beta. And it's the best I've tried - and I have tried a lot!

May I suggest you people to try Alesti.org to read feeds online?
I used Bloglines until I found Alesti, and after a couple of days trying it I switched without thinking it twice. Some of its features are:

You can tag your subscriptions, and read only the selected tag unread articles, for example.
Its pretty darn fast.
Interface smoothly ajaxed, but without fancy animations, only the necessary to read feeds fast.
You can bookmark articles for later reading, or simply keep them new.
You can email an article you are reading to a friend.
Its available in several languages, including English, German and Spanish.
Its free
They answer the feedback you send them
