~David: Thanks for reply. Sorry I didn't make clear: I GOT a WP.com blog --after seeing the template I wanted, so I COULD learn how to use, but it isn't working. WP.ORG is totally different and can't figure out how to up/down -load.

~J. Angelo: Thanks for reply. Thanks for the offer! Can you explain: HOW to download(?) the template?
-I click on template
-get a window that says 'download' /when it finishes I get
-window: 'files may be downloaded from C\Temp'
--but I can NEVER find it....
And: if I click on WP.org "ZIP" file nothing happens.
-"TARG" file choice instead of "ZIP": also nothing happens.
No matter how many times I've read WordPress
"CODEX": can't figure it out.

So far I've wasted many weeks. I have lots of questions, no answers. WHY do "techs" ASSUME knowledge average users DON'T have? What is wrong with them?

Hey all, I already have one great submission. I am looking for many more, so this is your chance to have your say on a site read by thousands.

Hey J. hopefully you can pick up the slack on the tech sites. :) Thanks though.

Poppy man... I know what you mean. WordPress.org can take a bit of getting used to, but you know there is also WordPress.com. It is a hosted service that is very easy to use and friendly. You should try out an account on there...see if you like it, and in a month or two switch over when they support hosted domains. (allowing you to use their service, but with your domain..instead of being whatever.wordpress.com)

[...] An opportunity has come up as David from BloggingPro is taking a vacation: I am heading for a vacation for the last two weeks of August, my first one in a year, and while I am gone, I would love BloggingPro to continue, and so I figured that stealing a page from someone great by asking my readers to help keep content going would be a good idea.
Sheesh, rotten luck...well, hope you're having good time...I am not going on vacation, I am going stark raving bonkers...and for cold comfort: I seem to be the only one. But I'll post anyway.

It started with a blog...I got one, posted daily, got PR from long content, figured out how to add AdSense, it went okay. But during nitely 'learning' trips: decided to
-get my own domain
-get my own website
While surfing I found THE most beautiful template I've ever seen --unfortunately. It was available ONLY on WordPress. So: got domain I wanted, found a host that was connected to WordPress. Kewl! I thought. Now: I'm stuck in website HELL.
English IS my FIRST/only language, however: I do not have Clue One HOW to do any --with the website (beyond writing content) or with the WordPress.org blog.
I read the FORUM rules, so I'm not about to ask a ? there.... For Weeks: I read the Codex, Forums, blah blah blah. I don't understand any of it. I asked the host techs: they won't help; they say click on *Help --but "help" pages say 'glad you chose us.' I Googled: variations of 'simple tutorial WP.org change template'--Zip. I don't know difference betw "upload"
"download" /where or what "php" files are--where they go, how to find...any of it.

I'm literal; instructions Assume knowledge I don't have...don't know how to get --leaves out steps. Can't figure out how to grab a template off the web; Zero idea how to change WP.org blog for the great one --or any of the others in THEME VIEWER.... How/where did everyone else learn this?
Ah, well prolly talking only to myself. I give up. It will be like petting a kitten backwards, but I'll live with website basic ugly template and very boring ugly standard issue FIXED WP.org template...sales should be great. Ya, right.
