Sugar Publishing’s $5 Million Dollar Deal

You thought that b5media getting $2 million dollars was a big deal? Well, blog network Sugar Publishing, which includes the very popular site PopSugar, has raised somewhere around $5 million US in a Series A round investment from Sequoia Capital.

From TechCrunch:

The Sugar Publishing network, which includes a number of blogs and other sites catering to “young, hip women” has only been around since the Fall of 2005, but boasts a rumored 3 million unique visitors and 20+ million page views per month (up from 13 million monthly page views and 1.5 million unique visitors just a couple of months ago). See our initial review of the network from August 2006 for more.

I am not sure what these deals will hold for the companies that are getting them as of yet, but the slow increase in VC money heading towards blog networks is a nice change. It will give many people that dream of writing as a career the opportunity, and that’s never a bad thing in my book.
