Let me preface this by letting you know that I am Canadian and as such I have a sweetspot for blogging statistics for my own country.
Over on Canoe.ca, a popular news and information site, they have an article up that takes a look at the popularity of blogging in Canada, and while there are a fair bit of people reading blogs, percentage wise, we are not a big blo writing community.
According to the Environics Research Group, only seven per cent of all the people surveyed have written their own blogs while nine per cent claim they have posted a response to one in the timeframe studied.
Canadian youth appear to be spurring the blogging trend with 51 per cent stating they read blogs on a regular basis. That is more than twice the national average. Nearly one quarter (22 per cent) say they also write their own blogs.
It is interesting to see how low the adoption of writing in a blog is in Canada, and I would be interested to see how this compares to the rest of the world. I am amazed that around fifty-one percent of youner Canadians are reading blogs on a regular basis. That’s not just a geek community activity. I would be interested to see what people consider blogs though because if MySpace pages/blogs count, I hang my head in shame.

1Why wouldn’t MySpace count? It’s not my thing, but all the kids are doing it. That’s the whole point of this blogging stuff - it is what you make of it.

2I don’t like it because of how it is marketed, how much spam and junkmail goes through it, and how fake it all is.
I don’t think it is a mature service, and I’d like to block it from my Internet…lol. I think that they should realize that there are better forms of blogs out there, and that they should if they are serious about sharing their views or opinions change over to those services because I am sure Newscorp sees them all as just $$$.

4I’d have to agree that there aren’t too much Canadian bloggers out there, which is surprising considering that we are quite up there in terms of being “connected”. I guess we’re too busy reading blogs than blogging. I don’t know.
With regards to myspace, I have to say that I don’t try to read them since they’re very teen oriented and I guess I don’t have the same interests. After reading a few, I kind of got turned off and stopped looking at myspace blogs.

5There are a lot of Canadian bloggers out there. It might be domain-specific, but there are a heckuva lot of educational bloggers in Canada. And quite a few political bloggers. The Northern Voice blogging conference in Vancouver has been full to capacity each year (so far). http://www.northernvoice.ca

7Good to see some Canadian bloggers replying to this. I haven’t found too many but then, I guess most of us don’t choose the Canadian domain (myself included).

8It’s my opinion that there are quite a few Canadian bloggers out there, but for some reason or another, it’s just difficult to find most of them.

10Why is it that Canadian blogs and other foreign blogs exclude US bloggers?
