WordPress.com Doesn’t Allow Pay Per Post

Not surprisingly, it looks like WordPress.com in their attempt to be as spam free as possible has reminded everyone that PayPerPost advertisements are not allowed on WordPress.com blogs.
WordPress.com’s Terms of Service are very clear about this, and even highlight the important text in blue.
the Content is not spam, and does not contain unethical or unwanted commercial content designed to drive traffic to third party sites or boost the search engine rankings of third party sites, or to further unlawful acts (such as phishing) or mislead recipients as to the source of the material (such as spoofing);
WordPress is trying to create a quality service and quality brand, and they believe that PayPerPost is only a way to try to game search engines. So, if you want to use such a service, head somewhere else because at this point, WordPress.com doesn’t want you to post it there.
WordPress.com is what I’d call the bully of online blogging solutions…
I guess it will be the same for us non-service Wordpress users as well…
Is this some kind of problem? If I hear the word “monetize” once again I’m going to hurl… 8x

@Malin, are you talking about the full WordPress software? What you do on your own space shouldn’t be an issue.
@Ajay – You never know what they can come up with these days. But I got a little too carried away there I have to admit.

But, if they put something like that, then they may see an influx of users moving away from a good blogging software.
Given the heat Matt took from the WordPress community a while back over link spamming on the wordpress.org domain, I’m not surprised they’re finely tuned to this type of strategy.

You do know that Wordpress is GPL licensed, so that’s not something you need to worry about, right? If they ever decide to change the license to restrict what you can do, anyone who wants to can just publish their own version of WordPress based on the current version without those restrictions.
Oh well, too bad for those who dream of monetizing their wordpress.com blogs.
I honestly think it is “not nice” for Wordpress to do this. If they worry about spamming, they could have given less severe rules about advertising on wordpress.com blogs.
Nowadays, more and more bloggers realise that they can get paid by blogging and I see more and more bloggers leaving wordpress.com
