Wired, in a recent article posted ten companies that they think would make great Web 2.0 acquisition bait for 2007, and coming it at number seven surrounded by Technorati above it and Feedburner below it is WordPress (really Automattic).
7. WORDPRESS The new de rigueur blog-management software, WordPress is favored by the majority of high-traffic posters. One caveat: It’s open source and unlikely to accept a corporate come-on.
I think the open source aspect is a good reason for a big company to avoid it, but doesn’t totally get rid of the idea of buying it to become a sponsored product. Could you imagine Revision3’s WordPress rather than Automattic’s?
