Become a Master of Metaphor

A great blog post on Copyblogger talks about metaphor, a great way to write so that people can understand things easier and better. It is a talent I have yet to fully learn, and reading this article, it reminds me why I want to take the effort. Using metaphors can really help connect your writings to your readers and give more power to the words you put online.

Here is a snippet from the article:

The greatest thing by far is to be a master of metaphor – Aristotle

Aristotle and countless other masterful communicators have harnessed the power of metaphor to effectively persuade and inform. Metaphors allow you to make the complex simple and the controversial palatable. Conversely, metaphors allow you to create extraordinary meaning out of the seemingly mundane.

I was married to a girl once. Brilliant girl. BA in Materials Science Engineering from Purdue. She has this way of describing things that was so unreal. She’d take the most abstract thing and put it into a concept that ANYONE could understand. And when I came around to seeing her point of view on it – I was like, WOW, she’s got it. I should have written them down because the marriage didn’t last long. P:
