DMOZ could have been the great web 2.0 sucess story. Unfortunately too many editors love their power in the hierarchy system and would never embrace a democratised media world. A shame really.

Some think that Shoe is trying to play a game to get attention, but I doubt it. DMOZ used to be the 'thing.' Now it's dead. It really is time to move on from DMOZ.

Not so new: I've heard of editors you can ask, for money, to insert your site. I have two very nice sites, full of useful information confirme by the traffic and the contact of surfers I have every day.

Thinking they are good for DMOZ I submitted them, checking before the italian category to see if my sites were good in respect of others already in the directory. The answer, honestly, was yes, and in two years I've had no answers and no inclusion.

But in that category there are many sites of bad quality and still present. Why they are there and why some big and new commercial sites has been recently included? I know an editor and I've seen some discussions between editors about inclusion of a site: not very objective, IMHO.

Another example: the company I worked some years ago has its site in DMOZ. I asked, how did you do that? The answer: we have a friend that...

May be those are single episodes, I don't know, but when there is humans beings... :-)
