There really is a fine line to features vs. simplicity and I’ve seen many people go over the line and lose share because they got too complex. WordPress has plugins to manage features in an adhoc manner and that’s the way they should keep it.

For those folks who wish to resize and edit images – perhaps WP can simply build some more hooks in the API so other people can write those plugins.
