Although out of the box it isn't that great for SEO it takes about 5-10 minutes and one plugin to get it to be pretty darn good on the SEO front.

By the way, what is better than WordPress for SEO that is still as easy as WordPress to install, modify, and use?

Yes, you're right. It doesn't take very much to improve out-of-the-box SEO for WordPress. Install the All-in-one-seo plugin helps a lot, and make sure you limit spiders to not visit your double content with a robot.txt. Once you have these two areas covered, you're already halfway. (A good theme is another important option, but I leave that up to the user to decide.)

I guess that SEO is never an out-of-the-box product. Regarding to your special interests you always have to "customize" any software you buy. That not depends on wordpress or whatever software you have to or want to use.

Mark's right, but your points are valid, too. What I'd like to see is great SEO out of the box in the first place. Unless you want to screw around with .htaccess files and the like, getting pretty permalinks on WordPress and dealing with duplicate content issues is WAY beyond many bloggers, more and more of whom are not that tech-savvy.

And although Mark's points are correct, let's put things in context: compared to most DIY website jobs, WordPress is better SEO out of the box. Just do a search for "untitled document" and you'll see what I mean.
