Blogging is still a great medium through which one can communicate if you have a message or even something to sell. Difficult to really achieve this by facebook or twattering away.

I think he has a point, but it is also worth noting that the things he criticises are trends that will, and are, passing. People are now starting to look at blogs as something more long term, as careers, and blatant money making doesn't really help you if you to make yourself a success in the long term.

Is inauthentic, disingenuous blogging any different than inauthentic, disingenuous journalism? I think not. It's just that as with everything else on the Internet, there's more of it. Good ideas, honest (heartfelt) reporting and substance always shines through. Do enough of it on the Web, and spread it out to your writing on Facebook, Twitter and favorite social network sites and you will be found. It takes time, commitment and persistence but it will work. The audience is still there. The writer needs Web presence (a volume of quality work) to be found. When a reader clicks through from Google and is satisfied with the content she finds, she'll be back for more.
