How to Find the Perfect Domain Name without the Frustration

After a writer researches and applies the many “freelance writing best practices” that so many blogs discuss, there usually comes a time when a writer wants a space of his/her own to house this writing. In many cases, this is how a successful blog begins. Writers guest post on many successful blogs and think, “I could do this.” It is of course difficult to create and manage a website, but in most situations the writers are right—they can do that.

The first step to creating your own blog is deciding if you really have the time and energy to do so. You will want to make sure that you understand the time commitment it takes to run a blog, the expenses that come with owning a blog, and other issues you will need to deal with such as HTML coding and any spam problems that can occur. How to Become an Expert in Almost Anything (in Six Months)

Skiing Expert ImageOn the Internet, everyone is looking for experts to get information from. Whether it’s how to fix a car, what dog food to buy or where to go on a vacation, people want to get their information from someone that they trust knows more than they do.

But becoming an expert in a field isn’t easy. It can take a lifetime of experience in a field or several certifications to become a true expert in some areas. However, in many fields, the term expert doesn’t have any official designation, it’s just someone who thinks about, studies and knows more on a topic than most.

It takes amazingly little time to go from being someone who is passionate about a topic to being an expert on it in most cases. It just requires some time, a good amount of work and a willingness to take a few risks.

If you’re willing to stretch your wings a little bit and follow a few steps, you can have others calling you an expert in your field in no time. Read More

Should You Close Comments on Older Blog Posts?

When all is said and done, the comment section of a blog is truly full of decisions that a blog owner must make. You have to decide whether or not you have the time to moderate every comment, if you want to moderate only a user’s first comment, continually check to make sure you don’t have any spam in your comments, reply to comments, ask authors to reply to comments, and finally you must decide whether or not to close comments on older blog posts.

Should You Spend Time Writing What You Don’t Know?

If you’re a professional blogger, you know that you don’t always have a choice when it comes to what you write. You could stick to writing about topics that you really understand, but eventually you will run out of places to post these types of articles, and you will run out of clients who want these types of articles. For this reason, many writers find themselves writing about topics outside the comfort zone. For example, in the past I have written about a new species of frog that was recently discovered, staph infections, and medical billing software—not really my forte. I had to act like an expert by reading articles by the real experts. This led me to wonder: Is it okay to write about what you don’t know?
