BlogCatalog is one of the biggest and best known blog directories around, and currently is a Bloggy Network property, at least for now. Some lucky person is going to have the chance to add this site as one of their own as it has been listed on Sitepoint as being for sale

What is BlogCatalog?
BlogCatalog is a directory listing of blogs, but more than that, it is one of the few that are well established. The site was originally created in mid-2004 and has since been added to DMOZ, Yahoo Directory, and has been linked to by many sites. It has had a consistant Google PageRank of 7 for over a year now, and comes in as number one in searches for “blog directory”.

Why is it for sale?
With an ever increasing blog network, BlogCatalog has become the odd-man, and so it needs a loving home where it can continue to get the love and attention it deserves.

What else can you tell me about it?
The design was created by a high end design firm, FortyMedia.com, the advertising revenue from the site comes to around $1700 a month, and Yahoo Site Explorer says the site has over 1,000,000 backlinks.

This isn’t a property that Bloggy Network really wanted to let go of, but with the sale of one property, time and energy to start and develop new things becomes available. If you are looking for a powerful site, that has been around for a while, has some great Page Rank and some great search result positioning, you will want to jump on over to the Sitepoint auction.

Update: Sold for buy it now price. Great stuff! Another showing of how the market currently is.

PRESS RELEASE: SplashData Introduces SplashBlog, “Photo Blogging” Solution for Palm Powered Smartphones

SplashData, Inc., the leading developer of “virtual wallet” applications for mobile devices, announced the launch of its new SplashBlog solution for PalmOne Treo and other Palm Powered-wireless devices. For the first time, users can not only capture pictures with their camera phones, but can instantly publish photos to a “photo blog” for friends and family members to see.

“SplashData’s SplashPhoto has long been one of my favorite Palm OS® applications, and I use it almost daily to show off the latest photos of my kids,” said Larry Berkin, director of developer marketing, for PalmSource. “The ability to quickly publish photos to a photo-blog is an exciting new development that gives Palm Powered smartphones even greater functionality.”

The process of “blogging,” maintaining a personal journal on the Internet that is frequently updated, has been steadily growing in popularity. SplashBlog adds an entirely new element to blogging—instantly publishing a photo diary from a wireless device. Now anyone with a smartphone can snap photos of vacations, new babies, and other momentous occasions, and wirelessly publish those pictures to their personal photoblog for friends and family scattered throughout the world to enjoy.

SplashBlog streamlines the process of mobile photo blogging, allowing users to capture an image and publish it to an online photoblog in as little as two clicks. SplashBlog includes everything users need to publish their photos online, including software for the smartphone and a free online photoblog account at splashblog.com. SplashBlog is also compatible with the TypePad blogging service and support is planned for similar services such as Blogger, Flickr and Zoto.

“Mobile photoblogging is a great way for smartphone users to keep in touch with friends and family while traveling or away from their desktop computer,” said John Chaffee, president of SplashData. “The combination of a camera-equipped smartphone and SplashBlog with its streamlined interface and instant photo publishing make for an outstanding mobile photo blogging solution.”

System Requirements
SplashBlog requires a handheld running Palm OS 4.0 or later with a wireless data connection. A built-in camera is recommended but not required. Handhelds without a camera can publish images from a VFS memory card (e.g., from a digital camera). Two-way synchronization is also supported, enabling images added via the Web site to be downloaded to the handheld.

Pricing & Availability
SplashBlog for Palm OS is available now at www.splashblog.com. It is available for a limited time introductory offer of $19.95 (normally $29.95). The software purchase includes access to an online photo hosting account on splashblog.com. A 30-day full-functioning trial is also available for download. Versions of SplashBlog for other handheld platforms (Windows Mobile Pocket PC, Windows Mobile Smartphone, Symbian Series 60 and Symbian UIQ) will be released in Q2 2005.
