The city editor will have the first-hand opportunity to help fashion and grow the Red Tricycle brand and act as the main representative of Red Tricycle in-market. The city editor will work closely with Erin, Red Tricycle’s Managing Editor (based in the Bay Area) and local freelance writers.
There are four main components to the position:
1 -- Family Events Calendar Curation
Responsible for finding and publishing awesome events to our family events calendar.
2 -- Write and Edit
Write a minimum of two stories per week: one story is the weekend roundup (a summary of the most awesome weekend events for local families that links back to the events calendar) and the second original story is up to you!
Assign out to freelance writers and edit three additional stories per week that will conform to RT brand and style.
3 -- Manage Local Writers & Local Editorial Calendar
Create an editorial calendar that is engaging, robust, and upholds RT editorial brand. Map out the editorial calendar three months in advance, taking into account seasonal stories and content that resonates with local readers and upholds RT brand.
Manage local freelance writers to achieve the above. This includes responding to pitch emails, scheduling each writer’s deadlines, and editing their stories so the content conforms to RT’s editorial style and brand.
4 -- Social Media
Be the voice of the local facebook page by creating a minimum of two engaging posts per day (they can be scheduled in advance) that consists of local RT stories and news relevant to parents in your market.
Bachelor’s degree, English or Journalism preferred
At least three years work experience in the editorial space, preferably at an online publication
Have lived in the local market for three plus years
Loves to explore the city with his/her kids and uncover family-friendly hidden gems
Has kids (between the ages of 0-8) and is active in the parenting community
Familiar with Red Tricycle brand and editorial style and voice
Witty and sarcastic sense of humor
Doesn’t know what the phrase “missed deadline” means
Impervious to writer’s block
Adept at WordPress
