Black Balloon Publishing’s blog, currently titled Black Balloon, is a general-interest online publication with a fast-growing readership.
We’re looking for a brilliant, curious, and web-savvy contributing writer who is New York-based and can submit between 30 and 40 posts per month.
A post can be anything from a cellphone picture of a beautifully misspelled piece of graffiti on a Dr. Zizmor subway advertisement with a 10-word caption, to a 500-word book review of an upcoming piece of fiction, but it must be witty, engaged, and engaging.
Responsibilities:
· compose original content for online publication
· source, edit, and upload images to accompany your content
· be an active voice for the brand
Requirements:
· Bachelor’s degree, preferably with a major in English
· Excellent writing and critical analysis skills
· Able to deliver clean, concise, and engaging prose under a deadline
· Voracious reader of both the internet and real books
· You must write with a voice. Be thrilled or thrilling, curious or provocative, but have a voice.
· Strong computer skills and an understanding of basic HTML
· Proficiency with Adobe Photoshop*
· Familiarity with SEO best practices
· Killer headline composition skills
The contributing writer will report directly to the blog’s editor. This is a part-time freelance position with an hourly compensation. *To prove your facility with Adobe Photoshop, please shop Mayor Bloomberg into a hot dog suit, crop the image to 250x250px, and attach it to your email.
