We're a private college counseling firm with offices in Los Angeles, Orange County, and San Diego. Our job is to guide each of the high school students with whom we work through college application process. We help them research colleges that would be the best fit for them, help them tell their stories on their applications, and, overall, endeavor to make the college application process as stress-free as possible. We work with students who explore all kinds of colleges-not just the Ivy Leagues- and take pride in the quality advice we provide to each of our families.
What are we looking for in an essay editor?
College Right counselors and essay editors are college junkies. We embrace our inner nerd by reading college guidebooks on the beach for fun. We tour colleges on vacation. We relish in the fact that we can recite every college mascot at every college and university in the country (and even some in Canada). If that resonates with you, you might really enjoy working with us.
During the college application season, our essay editors meet with students in one-on-one meetings at our office in Orange County, as well as edit essays remotely. This is a seasonal position that lasts from roughly June through November. The ideal start date is early June, and will include a College Right essay-training program. Our essay editors usually have about eight to ten hours of editing work a week.
What's the next step?
If you'd like to apply for this position, please first visit our website at www.collegeright.com. We really hope you'll take some time to learn more about how we help our students with the college application process. We also hope that poking around on our site will be a good indicator about whether or not you'd be a good fit for this position (and a good fit for working with teenagers.) If what you read sounds like a good match with who you are, please email a resume and cover letter to Gail Nichols. If you have questions about the job, please email us at the above address.
One Final Note
Great college essays allow students to reveal who they really are. We believe that like a great college essay, a great cover letter should do the same. We hope you'll take the time to send us something thoughtful. It's okay to write a cover letter that is interesting, quirky, funny, full of panache, or even wildly passionate. Maybe yours will be all of these things. But, please, whatever you do, don't send us something generic or unoriginal. We look forward to hearing from you.
