Description
Want to work from home blogging about politics, crime, health, government, technology, money and more?
We are looking for a freelance writer to contribute to Avvo.com's Naked Law blog (nakedlaw.avvo.com) 3 times per week. If you're not familiar with Avvo, we are a website that offers free legal guidance and lawyer ratings/reviews. Avvo receives over 2 million visits per month and has been featured on Good Morning America, ABC News, The Wall Street Journal, USA Today and more.
The idea behind the Naked Law is to talk about all the interesting, entertaining or bizarre ways that law intersects life. This is not a collection of boring "How to get a divorce" or "What to do in a car accident" legal guides. What appears on Naked Law should have mass appeal to non-lawyers without immediate legal problems or even without any interest in law.
-The Job-
We are looking for a writer who can work from home and contribute to Naked Law 3 times per week.
Every blog post should
- Be interesting, entertaining and insightful.
- Be written at a level anyone can understand.
- Be punchy enough to accommodate short attention spans.
- Be unique and add value (not just a rehash of news already reported elsewhere).
- Have lots of viral potential.
- Always have a catchy title.
- Have some connection to law, even if it's an indirect connection (e.g., a paragraph intro explaining the Endangered Species Act in a blog post about animals on the verge of extinction, or anything having to do with crime).
- Be well-researched with plenty of links back to reputable online sources.
The best way to see the type of writing we want is to browse nakedlaw.avvo.com.
-The Ideal Writer-
You are someone who
- Can consistently contribute 3 blog posts a week.
- Is completely comfortable writing from a liberal, conservative or centrist perspective as needed.
- Can write blog posts from ideas that come from the editor and/or come up with your own blog post ideas.
- Is a solid internet researcher.
- Is an information and news junkie who knows what's going on in the world and what issues are hot.
- Is familiar with Wordpress.
-Pay-
Pay is $40 per blog post, and posts should average around 700 words each.
