Description
Established Atlanta-based magazine publishing company is seeking a freelance editor / writer. Candidates must have at least 2 years previous experience in an editorial-type position at another publication. Strong writing, editing, researching and interviewing skills are a must.
Duties include but are not limited to:
* Planning & conceptualizing articles and editorial calendar
* Writing, editing/proofreading, fact-checking articles
* Assigning stories to freelance writers
* Assigning photo shoots/gathering photos
* Interviewing sources & researching for articles
* Scheduling and meeting constant deadlines
* Coordinating aspects of the editorial and production process
* Supervising workflow and freelancers writers
* Proofing design pages
Qualifications
*B.A. or equiv., English or journalism degree preferred
*At least 2 years editorial experience at a publication
*Strong writing, editing, communication and time-management skills
*Good command of grammar, spelling and AP style
*Excellent research skills w/ ability to find solid, reputable sources for articles
*Strong organizational skills w/ ability to multi-task and prioritize to meet deadlines
*Ability to problem-solve and develop solutions, create efficient procedures and work effectively under minimal supervision
*Maintain professional demeanor on phone/in person
*Must be a team player, passionate, enthusiastic
*Strong attention to detail & accuracy
*Needs to be a self-starter, self-motivated but also have the ability to take direction
*Proficient in MS Word, Excel and Internet applications w/ ability to learn other programs quickly
*Able to work in fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment
