Part-time Writer/Copy Editor – New York Office
Fenton is seeking a part-time freelance Writer/Copy Editor based in New York to support marketing and account-related needs for the entire firm.
Fenton is one of the leading public interest communications firms in the country with offices in New York, Washington DC, Los Angeles and San Francisco. We develop and execute strategic communications campaigns on international, environmental, public health and social justice issues, including education reform; voting and democracy; organized labor; lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender rights; and women’s rights.
Essential responsibilities include, but are not limited to writing, copyediting and proofreading for:
Fenton Marketing and Business Development
Develop content for Fenton website including blog and case studies
Draft Fenton guides for cause communicators and other intellectual property
Draft press releases and promos for events, conferences, new hires and other announcements
Create and manage social media postings
Draft proposals for new business pitches
Account-Related Projects
Draft communications plans, audits and other client projects involving heavy copy
Draft web content and other writing assignments
Additional duties as assigned
Qualifications:
A minimum of three years of experience in journalism, copywriting for web, nonprofit work or demonstrated equivalent experience. Strong preference for experience writing for nonprofit and CSR sectors
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in written format
Experience and facility with writing for web and social media
Experience using social media platforms/tools
Strong news sense
Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint)
Ability to juggle multiple tasks under tight deadlines and meet schedules and assigned tasks in a timely manner
Ability to interact and perform in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
Demonstrated resourcefulness and flexibility in approach to project assignments
Compensation: Competitive with benefits.
