Hearth, Inc. is a non-profit organization dedicated to the elimination of homelessness among the elderly of Greater Boston and beyond. Hearth is unique in its development and operation of permanent housing with services specifically designed to support formerly homeless elders to age with dignity. This is an exciting time for Hearth as it has expanding its impact and programs on multiple fronts. With the opening of Hearth at Olmsted Green this past summer, Hearth now owns or operates 196 units of permanent, service-enriched housing in eight locations in the Greater Boston area. Hearth is governed by a 23 member board of directors and employs 106 full-time and part-time staff members. Hearth's Outreach Program was recognized as a 2009 Social Innovator by the Social Innovation Forum of Cambridge, Mass and has expanded its program to serve more of Greater Boston's homeless and elders at risk of homelessness. In 2010, Hearth and the Corporation for Supportive Housing (CSH) joined together to further a national dialogue about the impending crisis of elderly homelessness on a national level.

The main responsibility of the part-time grant writer is to pursue grant funding for programs, services, and initiatives at Hearth, Inc. by both maintaining important existing relationships as well as through the research and identification of new sources of funding. Under the supervision of, and in collaboration with, the Associate Director of Foundation and Corporate Relations, s/he will develop proposals and reports to support Hearth's work.

The main responsibility of the part-time grant writer is to pursue grant funding for programs, services, and initiatives at Hearth, Inc. by both maintaining important existing relationships as well as through the research and identification of new sources of funding. Under the supervision of, and in collaboration with, the Associate Director of Foundation and Corporate Relations, s/he will develop proposals and reports to support Hearth's work.

The grant writer needs to be a very experienced writer with demonstrated expertise in proposal writing for corporate and foundation audiences. S/he will report to the Associate Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations, and will contribute to the completion of 60-80 proposals annually.

Work with the Associate Director of Foundation and Corporate Relations and the Director of Hearth's Institutional Advancement Department to identify needs and develop content for proposals. Draft and edit proposal texts and grant applications to corporate and foundation prospects, as well as budgets and other supporting materials and meet deadlines. Work with program staff to develop narrative and financial content for grant reports to funders. Interact with program staff to document project progress for funder reporting.

Research new funding opportunities. Monitor corporate and foundation donor priorities and general grantmaking trends.

Bachelors degree required. Proven success in grant writing and management, including organizational skills and management of deadlines. Excellent writing and communication skills; ability to conceptualize and articulate funding needs persuasively to potential funders. Enthusiastic with an ability to work with multiple deadlines and prioritize, in a dynamic fast-paced growth environment. Must be flexible, organized and detail-oriented.Ability to work as part of a team and collaborate effectively with staff across departments.
