St. Joseph Services is seeking a motivated, organized, and detail-oriented person to manage the grant effort and grow this segment of Development. The Grant Writer will coordinate between departments to ensure accurate and timely submission of all public and private grant applications and reports for SJS programs. The Grant Writer will be responsible for writing the majority of the narrative for applications and reapplications. This part-time position averages 15 hours per week.


Founded in 2001 as a ministry of the Daughters of Charity, SJS operates community centers in Chicago’s Humboldt Park and Austin neighborhoods with programs focused on developing youth, educating adults, and transforming lives. SJS is experiencing tremendous growth and requires a motivated, self-starter to grow our grants effort similarly.
Research, prepare and submit general operating and program-specific foundation/government grant proposals/applications/LOIs including budgets and all required attachments.
Maintain a grant calendar for all grants including a continuously updated timeline indicating due dates for all proposals/applications, reports and relevant information, as well as outcomes and reasons for acceptance/rejection.
Ensure, in coordination with program/finance/executive management, that information related to grants and reports corresponds accurately to the proposal and that reports are completed prior to deadline.
Cultivate grantors by sending acknowledgement letters, project updates, and other applicable items (e.g. donor mention in publications, etc.).
Produce quarterly summary reports on all grant activity, including submissions, status of all proposals, and reasons for acceptance/rejection.

Mandatory Job Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, English, or related area and 3 years experience
Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects, establish workload priorities, and meet deadlines are critical.
Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
Familiarity with fund raising activities.
Proficiency in Word, Excel, Outlook, and development database.
