Job Title: Web Editor (Part-time)

Department: Digital & Social Media

This is a part-time position working up to 20 hours per week.

Under supervision of the Director of Digital and Social Media, the Web Editor for Public Broadcasting Atlanta curates and edits online content and is responsible for daily maintenance of WABE.org. When necessary, the WEB Editor may be called upon to help produce content for other Public Broadcasting of Atlanta digital and social sites – including PBA.org and Atlanta Planit.

Accountabilities:

The Web Editor is the home page editor for WABE.org and works closely with newsroom staff, City Café staff, PBA30 and other departments as necessary on story selection, presentation, and placement. The Web Editor attends content meetings and works with reporters to conceptualize, curate, and produce digital-specific content to enhance news stories and promote audience engagement.

The Web Editor selects photos, edits written stories for style and content, manages tagging and archive systems, moderates comments, and creates or selects additional content (charts, links, digital media, etc.) in collaboration with the news researcher to add context and value to news stories.

The Web Editor will also be responsible for understanding the dynamics of a variety of social media sites and posting appropriate content to WABE social sites – which include Facebook and Twitter.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, or similar field from an accredited college or university, or equivalent experience.
Experience in developing stories for digital distribution through the web, social media, mobile, and other digital channels.
Strong content judgment, editorial, and writing skills.
Demonstrated organizational and time management skills, as well as skills in news writing, editing, interviewing, production, communication and interpersonal skills.
Must be able to handle a variety of activities, a problem solver, work well under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
Proficient with online content management systems.
Expert knowledge of AP Style.
Excellent communication skills in English
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and analyze, and interpret journals, digital publications, local blogs, books and newspapers.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to gather information, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
