Job Board >> Retail/Trends Writer
|Company Name||Desert Companion|
|Location||Las Vegas, NV|
|Date Posted||17, Tuesday 2012|
|Listing Type||Word Based|
The ideal candidate is a savvy and discerning consumer with a reporter's instinct for a good story and an ear for good prose. You'll pitch editorial packages for the monthly section, file stories within reasonable turnaround times, keep on top of news and trends both locally and nationally, develop sources and relationships in the retail world and -- occasionally, just for thrills -- help us track down high-res jpegs from flaky 19-year-old publicist interns halfway across the globe on nail-bitingly tight deadlines. Consider it a perk.
Sometimes you'll be working within a template, other times you'll be at the steering wheel. We're really looking for a confident, responsive and accessible retail enthusiast writing machine, one we can depend upon to be a sort of de facto pilot of the section. Basically, this beat should be both your passion and pastime. We want someone whose instincts and taste we can trust. Someone who writes thoughtfully and compellingly for our valued readers, not someone who regurgitates PR fluff.
We're interested in Las Vegas-based writers only. We're deeply local -- but not provincial. We support our vibrant homegrown businesses in Southern Nevada, but that doesn't mean we shun the Strip, either.
Pay is commensurate with performance. Perhaps just as importantly, this freelance gig has the potential to grow into something more substantial.
