The American Association for the Advancement of Science is seeking experienced science bloggers for its member website, MemberCentral.
In addition to blogs on issues affecting the science community, the website features profiles of member scientists, interactive webinars on pressing science topics, videos and podcasts by leading scientists, and info on upcoming AAAS events.
Writers should have a related background—either as scientists, educators, policymakers or science writers—and be skilled at finding and developing topics of pointed interest to the STEM community. Advanced degree in STEM field preferred. They must have a portfolio of lucid and lively writing for a general audience and be capable of submitting stories that require minimal structural editing.
Blogs cover a range of areas, including science policy, education, careers, federal programs, funding, community and communication. Stories should reference recent research and reports, while exploring their impact on the scientific community. We are not looking for reporting of scientific discoveries.
Word count is 350-450, with a $65 fee paid for each post. Among the supporting materials we provide bloggers are weekly science news e-blasts, bi-monthly AAAS Policy Updates and a free subscription to the journal Science, with archived research dating back to 1880.
