Small Business Majority (SBM), based in Sausalito, CA, with offices in Washington DC, New York and Sacramento, is the leading national voice for the rapidly growing ranks of small business owners, freelancers and other entrepreneurs who are advocating for progressive public policy solutions such as healthcare reform and clean energy. The organization has successfully advised state and national leaders using our in-depth research and policy analysis. Our results have direct relevance for small business owners, policymakers, and other stakeholders.
We are expanding our dynamic team and seek an enthusiastic writer who has a passion for making a difference. This position can be in either Sausalito, CA, or Washington D.C.
Responsibilities include:
• Synthesize data from public policy reports and research studies and translate into external documents and reports
• Research and write public policy summaries as well as documents outlining the organization’s accomplishments
• Create marketing summaries, fact sheets and other collateral
• Write web content and blog posts
• Keep up with articles and blog postings about healthcare reform and small business perspectives in both print and electronic publications; make recommendations on, and craft responses
• Write speeches, letters to the editor, op-eds, and other opinion pieces
• Assist with proposal concept development and writing
• Write press releases
• Work with our outreach team to interview small business spokespeople and write profiles/case studies
Our ideal candidate will have relevant experience and proven writing skills. He/she must be a self-starter and be capable of being a key member of a dynamic, results-oriented organization. He/she must be entrepreneurial in nature and enjoy an ever-changing, fast-paced environment; must be able to quickly get up-to-speed on current issues. This is a permanent full-time position, but we will accept inquiries from independent contractors.
Requirements:
• Superior writing and editing skills
• Ability to quickly condense complex issues in to multiple digestible written components
• Interest in advocacy and public policy
• Enjoyment of collaboration and ability to work as part of a team with multiple internal and external resources
• Mastery of all Microsoft Office programs (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
