About the Job
We are working with our client in identifying a Technical Writer to create and maintain online help systems, technical reference documents, and other documents for highly technical software products. The audience is systems admins, network admins, IT staff and some documentation is geared towards end users like call center agents.
In this role, you will:
Plan, organize, write and edit online help systems and other technical documentation for sophisticated commercial software products using proven technical writing techniques.
Document new and updated software through interviews, online documents, and e-mail discussions.
Develop documentation according to corporate and team standards.
Update and maintain existing documentation.
Research the application or concepts to be documented with software engineers, and use the application in the process of documenting it.
Acquire and use basic source material, including specifications and requirements documents.
Manage multiple ongoing projects for various products and meet moving deadlines.
3+ years of Technical Writing experience
Commercial software documentation experience
Experience developing end user and administrator technical documentation for applications with a graphical user interface.
Microsoft Word, RoboHelp (or something similar and Adobe Acrobat experience
Understanding of system architecture, understanding how different types of programs work together (e.g. client-server architecture)
Strong technical aptitude with ability to understand and communicate complex technical procedures or concepts
Editing skills, for print and online documentation.
Strong interviewing skills and ability to work with SMEs with a wide variety of personalities
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
Analytical, planning, and organizational skills.
Technical writing test required prior to interview
Visio and WebHelp experience
API documentation development experience
Experience with XML authoring, CCMS, and other tools
Experience in telephony, VoIP, networking hardware and software, gateways, DBMS, various Windows and Linux OS, ASR, call center application software, or other similar products.
Start Date: ASAP
Duration: 3 months
Location: 100% virtual with at least one week onsite orientation required. Client is located in Indianapolis, IN. Local candidates preferred. If not local, must work between the business hours of 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. Eastern time.
