Description
We’re a boutique style firm that specializes in client services within the digital publishing industry in the fields of design, development, and consulting. We have a passion for digital publishing and work primarily with WordPress as we feel it is a great solution for our clients. The company is expanding quickly and we are looking forward to taking on new talent.
As a developer, your work will be done alongside some great team members. Tasks will center around:
Developing and maintaining some exclusive plug-ins for end-use by our clients
Interfacing with other members of a team (designers, copy writers, etc…) to produce client websites powered via WordPress
Our clients range from law offices and digital boutiques to authors for Forbes and the Wall Street Journal. Since 2006 we’ve worked with a small, dedicated team in our office space based in Manhattan, New York City. We take on a limited number of projects each quarter to ensure that we can provide each client with the personal, boutique-style service we believe they deserve.
Required Skills:
Expert HTML and CSS3 skills
Strong PHP and MySQL skills
Strong JavaScript skills: specifically jQuery and a great sense of its application in the planning and strategy building phases
Clean, well documented, and cross-browser compatible code with an interest in best practices and optimization in all fields
At least 4+ years advanced experience with WordPress (templates, functions, custom plugin development, administrative customization) and a knack for manipulating the system to be much more than a blogging platform and more like a CMS
A knack for meticulous attention to detail during the debugging process
Strong Photoshop skills (in order to break down designs properly to translate them into code)
An understanding of the importance of typography and color choices, and the ability to transpose design into code (we often work with TypeKit)
Experience with version control systems
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
A love for collaboration with team members to pursue the project manager and team’s goals
An ability to translate requests from non-technical people into effective feature sets and modifications
A love for new technologies and breakthroughs in the industry
Excellent adherence to deadlines
An ability to prioritize quickly and efficiently
Would be great:
Facebook application development (limited)
Experience with the integration of Facebook, Twitter and other social APIs into other digital presences
HTML5 Experience
Experience with the Shopp plugin for WordPress
Candidates must be available from 9am to 5pm, Monday through Friday, although schedules will generally be preset. Hours per week will range from a minimum of 15 hours to around 20 hours and may increase in the future dependent on your schedule and interests.
This is an off-site, freelance position as an independent contractor for 2-3 months. Daytime availability is a must. Potential for part time or full time employment is a definite future option as well.
