Description
Friends of Materials for the Arts seeks a freelance writer/copy editor to update a curriculum guide that promotes waste reduction, reuse, and recycling in New York City schools.
The successful candidate will have 2+ years of professional writing/copy editing experience ideally for educational projects, excellent attention to detail, be a team player, and have the ability to work on multiple projects at once. An interest in environmental issues, art, and a thorough understanding of educational jargon such as the difference between a lesson plan, curriculum, and student task is preferred. If time permits, the writer/copy editor may be asked to complete additional tasks within the two-month project.
The curriculum guide to be updated by the writer/copy editor includes:
-Lesson plans and activity sheets for grades K-12 that comply with NYC Department of Education standards.
-Ideas for hands-on projects and long-term activities.
-Extensive background information on waste management and sustainability, including glossary sheets and additional resources.
Work on this two-month, 35-hour per week, project will begin immediately. The writer/copy editor must report to work Monday – Friday, 9 am - 5 pm, at our Long Island City office (33-00 Northern Boulevard, Long Island City, NY 11101).
